Digitizing Your Artifacts

Records & Tapes to CDs and MP3s

OLLI at WVU Class

Spring 2013

Course Description:

This course will provide a brief introduction to digitizing audio signals from records and tapes with a PC and saving the results as audio CDs and MP3 files. We will use free Audacity software, which is commonly the package provided with inexpensive hardware. Students may later use OLLI's hardware and computers to save modest amounts of material, and will learn something about selecting hardware for personal purchase.

This class is a quick overview of how to begin creating digital audio files from analog sources such as records and tapes.

The primary software we will use is Audacity, a free software product. It can be downloaded from several websites. See Presentation 2 for details, or Google Audacity
